Courses

The Club offers training and assessment in levels one to three of the BCU personal skills ‘Star’ award scheme in ‘Kayak’ and ‘Open Canoe’ disciplines.  The Club also has instructors who can teach sea and inland ‘Kayak’ discipline to BCU 5 star level.

See the BCU website for more details.

Courses normally run on a weekday evening during British Summer Time, at a time agreed by the instructor and participants. Occasionally, courses include a trip on a weekend. This is particularly the case for the 4/5 star awards.

Rolling courses
Five week rolling courses take place at Hamworthy Middle School swimming pool, on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9.30pm, from November to early Spring. There is generally an open session or two at the end of each course for all to come and practice.

Enrolling
Firstly you must be a club member. The Training Co-ordinator, (see “Committee”) will then be able to put your name on the waiting list and tell you of the next available course.

Training for coaches
Any club members interested in taking coaching qualifications will generally be reimbursed 50% of coach training and assessment costs incurred. The club member does need to commit to using the award to teach/run club courses for a minimum of 1 season on a volunteer basis.  Application should be made to the Training Co-ordinator
